The Venus Transit: Cosmic Convergence of 2012

Waking Times
A highly symbolic and awesome event is about to take place in the heavenly firmament on June 5th and 6th, depending on where one domiciles on Planet Earth. This celestial double event occurs only once in a lifetime, and has always had far-reaching and decisive ramifications for the entire human race. It concerns our closest planetary neighbor, Venus, which is one reason this transit will have such dramatic and earth-changing repercussions.
The Venus Transit always comes in pairs and each pair is separated by approximately eight years. The last Venus Transit occurred on June 8, 2004. Here’s more from Wikipedia:
“A transit of Venus across the Sun takes place when the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and Earth, becoming visible against (and hence obscuring a small portion of) the solar disk. During a transit, Venus can be seen from Earth as a small black disk moving across the face of the Sun. The duration of such transits is usually measured in hours (the transit of 2004 lasted six hours). A transit is similar to a solar eclipse by the Moon. While the diameter of Venus is almost 3 1/2 times that of the Moon, Venus appears smaller, and travels more slowly across the face of the Sun, because it is much farther away from Earth.
Transits of Venus are among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomena. They occur in a pattern that repeats every 243 years, with pairs of transits eight years apart separated by long gaps of 121.5 years and 105.5 years. The periodicity is a reflection of the fact that the orbital periods of Earth and Venus are close to 8:13 and 243:395 commensurabilities.”[1]
Some Important Historical Background
Venus is but one of 10 major planets/luminaries that exerts major influence on Planet Earth, both astronomically and astrologically. Within certain traditions of Eastern spirituality each of the planets represents a different incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is known as the Maintainer and Pervader of the Universe. In fact, the greatest and most renown deities in the pantheon of Hindu Gods are recognized by all adherents to be divine incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Those who are the most familiar include Lord Buddha, Lord Krishna, and Lord Rama.
Over the course of the past four major yugas or eras of time, there do appear 10 major manifestations of Lord Vishnu. Each appearance takes place at a critical point in the evolution of humankind, as well as at key junctions points during the life cycle of Planet Earth. It is known throughout most of Eastern civilization that the Lord Himself always chooses to incarnate, when worldly dharma (aka righteousness and order) has sufficiently degenerated, for the benefit of the genuine spiritual aspirants and truthseekers. And so he did.
Each of these divine incarnations appeared in their culture at a moment of dire circimstances and great need. Out of compassion and mercy, the Lord takes a form that is also represented by the predominant energy of each of the primary luminaries of the celestial firmament. For example, Lord Krishna is widely recognized as the divine incarnation of love. In the most sublime and sacred scripture of the East — the Bhagavad Gita — Lord Krishna says, “Among stars, I am the moon.” He is associated with the moon in many ways throughout the lore of Indian culture and tradition.
While this particular discussion is completely beyond the scope of this essay, in order to explore the 2012 Venus Transit more deeply, we are obligated to impart this relatively unknown information so that this momentous and highly consequential astrological event can be properly contexualized. Furthermore, this essay will contain threads from various systems of astrology to include Vedic, Western, and Mayan, as well as Roman and Greek mythology. Not even a rudimentary understanding of these schools of thought is required for purposes of this presentation; however, just a little common sense and connecting the dots will permit their profound wisdom to nicely inform our celestial interpretations of June’s Venus Transit .
We have provided a complete list of the planets/luminaries below. Many of us have already experienced Eastern spirituality or studied mythology of the Orient sufficiently to appreciate that each pairing below has deep meaning and carries great significance. For those who are uninitiated in these matters, the following list is the correlation between each planet and/or luminary and each major incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LUMINARY – DEITY
SUN – Lord Rama
MOON – Lord Krishna
MERCURY – Lord Buddha
VENUS – Parashu-Rama (Rama with the Axe)
MARS – Nrsimha (Man-Lion)
JUPITER – Brihaspati (The Dwarf)
SATURN – The Tortoise
KETU – The Boar
RAHU – The Fish
10th Planet – Lord Kalki
By way of illustration, the planetary embodiment of Lord Buddha is considered to be Mercury. Buddha (aka bhud in Indian astrology) is directly related to buddhi, the Sanskrit word for intellect. According to Indian astrology, Mercury is the messenger between God and man. Mercury is referred to as Budh or Buddhi karaka, hence we have the Buddha who came to deliver a world-changing message in the 6th century BC.
“Buddhi (Sanskrit, “intellect”) in Sanskrit (Hindu) literature is the higher mental faculty, the instrument of knowledge, discerment, and decision. Buddhi is comprehended slightly different in different philosophical systems. On the whole, it contrasts with manas, mind, whose province is ordinary consciousness and the connection of atman with the senses. Buddhi, however, is a higher faculty that acts in sense percepts organized by manas and furnishes intellectual discrimination, determination, reason, and will. As such buddhi is at the very core of one’s being, as sentient creatures, and the closest mental faculty to the atman, real Self or spirit.”[2]
“In Samkhya-yoga philosophy, buddhi (or mahat, “the great one”) plays a key role. Buddhi is the first principle derived from unmanifest, prakrti (and predominant in sattva guna, (“intellectual stuff”), virtually transparent reflector for pure consciousness (purusa), with which buddhi mistakenly identifies. With this mistaken identification with the conscious principle, a fall into ignorance, buddhi produces the next principle, ahamkara, which in turn produces manas. The three together make up the “internal instrument,” or antahkarana. For salvation, buddhi must attain the discriminative discernment between itself as unconscious matter, prahrti, and the independent and transcendent principle of pure consciousness, purusa. A.G.H.”[2]
So, now you can see that there is an esoteric, and highly significant, relationship between the planet Mercury and it presiding deity, Lord Buddha. With this example in mind, we will attempt to elucidate a similar relationship between Venus and its presiding deity, Parashu-Rama (Rama with the Axe).
VENUS – Parashu-Rama (Rama with the Axe)
Venus is considered to be the planetary manifestation of Lord Parashu-Rama also known as “Rama with the Axe”. Yes, such a moniker can’t help but connote a great and fearsome warrior; in fact, the most formidable of his era. Given that Venus is directly associated with this type of energy, how do we reconcile this understanding with those of Western astrology. So much of what issues forth from those astrologers has to do with everything and anything but warriors and war.
Truly, there is a war going on throughout the entire earthly realm, and we’re not talking about the military conflicts and isolated skirmishes raging across the planet today. We’re talking about the global battlefield known that the World Wide Web (also known as the Internet) has become. We’re talking about the intellectual wars being fought over the true history of the human race … over the actual geological history of the planet itself … over the current foundational paradigms which undergird the entire civilization.
Yes, indeed, there are HUGE wars being waged for the ownership and domination of cyberspace, for the information highways that now traverse every patch of ether surrounding globe. These wars and their countless battles are being fought with minds and keystrokes, with intellects and smartphones. The young and old alike have engaged a faceless and nameless enemy which has militated against the truth for eons. The computer has become the weapon of choice and necessity; the internet, its vehicle of dissemination.
Parashu-Rama (Rama with the Axe) is a fitting role model for what will be required in this continuing War of the Minds. History is replete with battlefields of the death and destruction wrought by the old mind – the antiquated way of thinking (linear, left-brain, reptilian). Simply put, the Patriarchal Society can no longer work in a planetary civilization peopled with 7 billion and counting. Isn’t working; can’t work; won’t work!
So now, those who are here to seed “the new way of living life on the planet” must make some noise. Loud noise, as is being made across cyberspace by the global Occupy Movement. In Purusha-Rama, we have a most formidable warrior and one whose energy will guarantee victory. He is fierce, possessing strength beyond comprehension, and courageous to a fault. Very good reasons to befriend him in our quest to overcome the prodigious obstacles that lie in wait on every battlefield made of mindstuff, bytes and endless files of digital code.
Roman and Greek Mythology
Venus in Roman mythology is known as the goddess of love. “As the Roman goddess principally associated with love, beauty, procreation, fertility, prosperity and military victory”[3], she was invoked regularly and with great enthusiasm. “Venus Victrix (‘Venus the Victorious’) was an aspect of the armed Aphrodite that Greeks had inherited from the East, where the goddess Ishtar “remained a goddess of war, and Venus could bring victory to a Sulla or a Caesar.”[4]
The counterpart of Venus in Greek mythology is Aphrodite. “Aphodite was the great Olympian goddess of beauty, love, pleasure and and procreation. She was depicted as a beautiful woman usually accompanied by the winged godling Eros (Love). Her attributes included a dove, apple, scallop shell and mirror.”[5]
These are the two primary cultures which glorified the goddess energies of Venus. Both have a strong military association which is not well known … except within the traditions of the East. Well known within the Vedic tradition of astrology is the understanding that where Jupiter (the Guru planet) is the teacher of the gods, Venus is the teacher of the demons. In his regard all the crafts of war were imparted from Venus to those nations with demonic intent. Who could argue that both Greece and Macedonia were victorious under Alexander the Great, as Rome was under so many Caesars.
However, as we fast forward to the Venus “retograde” Transit of 2012, we see a different type of energy manifesting worldwide. We see a burgeoning of the feminine which has become adept in the art of war, proficient enough to wage serious battle against the outmoded forces ostentatiously arrayed by a global patriarchy on its last breath. Where it appears that the odds are quite difficult for the lightwokers, there is much more hidden leverage on the side of the righteous. How so?
Saraswati, the Vedic Goddess of Wisdom
This is where things get very interesting. Saraswati is revered as the Vedic Goddess of wisdom and knowledge, writing and poetry, learning and memory, arts and sciences, communication and information. As the goddess of memory – the greatest aid and tool in living life on Planet Earth – she helps us remember who we really are. As the goddess who oversees all information and its dissemination, she is the patron deity of the internet. Some New Age sages and seers even view the World Wide Web as Sarawati incarnate. She is seen to travel as light … the light of consciousness … the light of knowledge … the light of information … that is being shined into the darkness of the mulit-millennial ignorance defined by the Kali Yuga.
For more commentary on the awakening of the divine feminine throughout the global village, the following piece is as enlightening as it is instructive.
The Venus Transits & The Return of the Divine Feminine
Truly, the human species is evolving out of its straightjacket of homo sapiens limitations and into a new consciousness defined by a new race – homo conscientious. The seed race is already known for being highly conscious, quite conscientious, and possessing a well-formed conscience. All of these will be required for anyone wanting to enter the next Golden Age. For there will be a mandatory awareness of the inter-connectness of all life and the divine which is immanent in all things, both animate and inanimate.
What can we expect to develop on the macro level from this Venus Transit?
Sometimes the best way to answer a question like this is to take a closer look at the past. Since someone else has already done this quite well, let’s refer to their work as follows:
Here is another penetrating analysis worth reading for those armchair astrologers who never stop connecting the dots:
Conclusion
By their very names we shall know them, because their name carries inherent divine energy. That’s why so many mantras include Rama or Krishna during this Age of Kali Yuga. The sublime and sacred energy contained within these powerful names can literally liberate an individual from the cycle of birth and death. Therefore, you can imagine how efficacious such an invocation of the spiritual warrior energy like Purusha-Rama may be. Or Venus, herself. Or Aphrodite. Or Saraswati.
Especially during the brief period of the mini-eclipse, while Venus is being energized by the Sun, and it’s shadow is making its presence known across the face our planet, there exists a quite unique and once-in-a-lifetime window of opportunity. Every inhabitant of Planet Earth has a vested interest in the livability of the global habitat. It is the Divine Mother who ensures the world environment is conducive for human life to thrive and flourish. However, She is not the sole guarantor.
As co-creators of the earth realm, each and every resident of Mother Earth is being called upon at this very moment to step up to the plate and decide what we want to be. Do we want to be a Taker or a Caretaker? Truly, that is the question of the Millennium. Sustainability — the key to our quality of life — only makes sense when a critical mass of Earth campers start walking their talk.
More importantly, deciding to live your life as a Caretaker instead of a Taker may be just what stops the inexorable and slow motion extinction level event that we’ve all been witnessing for decades. Let’s not be like the frog who stays in the hot water until ….
Caveat:
The Venus Transit is essentially an eclipse of the Sun.
What might it mean for the world of men and women when an eclipse of the Sun’s rays takes place? Though a very small eclipse of sunrays; neverless an eclipse.
Ahh, very good question. And one that we highly recommend be deeply contemplated. For therein lies the true secret of the potency and purpose of the Venus Trsansit.
