Creating the Future With the Moment Before Us

The future is often on our minds, whether or not we are thinking about the many global crises and how they will affect our world. Are we creating the future this very second or is the script already written? If it is it written, does it allow for possibilities and potentialities, or has everything already happened from beginning to end?
I’ve heard folks talking about this since I was a little kid, when my dad stated that Methodists don’t believe in predestination and Presbyterians do. At that time I remember thinking… I don’t want to be a Presbyterian. So it is with the young minds. We take everything in and accept the beliefs that feel best, sometimes based upon very limited options.
And then we grow and expand the options. But still, for many of us, the questions remain: How much do our thoughts and beliefs have to do with creating the future… nothing, everything, or something?
It doesn’t take a lot of looking to find someone who has read the books and watched the numerous videos about the law of attraction, placed themselves in an abundance frame of mind, done the visualization and felt the feeling of abundance, believed the feeling, taken steps based on the feeling, and fallen smack on their behind, broke and wondering what went wrong.
We go into the abundance state of mind in order to change our energy and get out of the ‘my life is lacking’ mentality. But I guess there is a bit more to it, or, the universe provides in its own time if we keep a practical head about us. We get in our own way so often, and while ‘victim’ may be easy to see in someone who whines and cries, it’s not so easy to see in ourselves, especially if ‘spiritual’ is how we view ourselves.
Regarding the future, we read prophesy and hear from visionaries, we experience moments of déjà vu or synchronicity, and all of these seem to indicate future events already existing. My tendency is to settle with ‘it depends’. Different perspectives can be true on different levels, and yet, somehow they agree.
I’m sure you’ve noticed a number of seemingly contradictive ideas that really don’t disagree. A very simple example is descriptions of the One Reality that I’ve read or heard within the past few weeks: it’s Consciousness… it’s Spirit… it’s Love… it’s Truth… it’s Information… it’s Energy… it’s Light. We can consider them all the same, with the only difference being the speaker or writer’s choice of words and our impression of those words.
Today, what’s on my mind is not the dreadfulness of the future, but the greatness of it: in particular, our desire to bring forth a peaceful, healthy, truthful and loving world in the ‘here-after’ the collapse of this system. It would be nice to be able to point toward a method, and say to the young, from a place of knowing, “The heaven on earth that you inherit already exists, this is what it looks like, and this is what you do to get the dirt of this world off of you and align your energy with it.”
It seems to me an influx of wise teachers started doing this type of work and teaching the ‘how to align’ and/or ‘how to create’ in the first half of the 20th century. On some level the teachings seem to differ quite a lot, but there are always threads that agree.
Then teachers of my generation took the information further, and spread it wider. When information spreads wide, it can also become shallow. We can bemoan this tendency to shallowness, or we can conclude that perfection is within this process, and the young are equipped.
Just taking an accounting of the people that I know, a fairly large percentage of the generation now in their forties still believe that a solution can be found within this current system. They are fearful, but still hoping and still buying it. But for the generation in their twenties I see far fewer who believe. They know it’s a lie, and many of them are wise beyond their years. They are studying information that has come down and taking liberation steps. Others are fearless of the system, and ready to tear it up.
What can I say from a place of knowing? The ‘here-after’ is well on its way. It may exist already and we are simply walking into it, or, we may be creating it moment-to-moment, with intent, imagination, intuition and perception and dedicated effort. For me, on an individual level, it seems that destinies come to pass, brought into play by something I can only refer to as silent prayer… when the desire of the heart-mind is heard, it becomes something of a magnet.
Essentially, destiny or not, we still have to dedicate and continue the work already begun.
The foundation is built: human beings are in the knowledge that divinity is within… which leads to self-governance and full responsibility for every thought and action. The power has moved from out to in. The One Reality, be it Truth, Love, Consciousness, Light… guides this change of the ages.
I wasn’t in the mind of Dr. Martin Luther King when he said, “I have looked over, and I’ve seen the promised land,” but I have some idea of what he saw. There is a place for those who love the Divinity of Being, and it’s not after death.
Now back to the day and the moment before us. Before me at this moment there are decisions and behaviors that can affect another’s life or my own life. The right word, being tuned in and actually hearing, the generous impulse, the warm and open heart, the respect, the love, the truth: creation of heaven at what seems the very smallest level may not be so small after all, and it is well within our reach at all times.
What would I offer the young, upon whom the burden will soon shift? Be the best that is in you, you already know what that is, and then be a bit more. The victory is in the ‘bit more’… believe in your power and evolve!
