Video – Aquaponics is growing in popularity as a versatile method of growing nutritious vegetables while raising fish, combining hydroponic gardening with aquaculture. These systems can be built to fit almost any location, indoors or outdoors, and can be designed for almost any crop or edible fish. The fish and plants form a mutually beneficial relationship where the waste produced by the fish is used by plants as energy.

An aquaponics system does not need to be complicated or expensive. Here are five amazingly simple aquaponics systems.

1. 20-foot PVC Aquaponics System

2. Aquaponics in a Bucket

You can start with an aquaponics system based on only 5 gallon buckets. In this scenario, you’ll be using goldfish, which of course you won’t be eating, but at least you’ll get started on a system that where you can make mistakes without it costing you much money. 3. The Aqualibrium Indoor Growing System

The reality is that not everyone has a yard or patio, even for a small rudimentary bucket system. For millions of us living in apartment buildings, space may not always be available for an aquaponics system. 4. Shelfponics Vertical Growing System

5. Easy and Affordable Backyard Aquaponics

If you have the space in your yard and prefer to build a system outside, this is a very simple system that will cost only about $150 in supplies and take a day or two to construct. This video does a great job explaining all of the supplies needed and how to put together to create this system.
